Free News & RSS reader for PDAs and Smartphones
User Guide
In this document, we will give a brief introduction to the software.
We've designed the user interface as intuitive as possible, so
that you can easily read your RSS-feeds on the go.
Table of Contents
What our reader can do for you
Our application is designed for reading contents which are delivered
in the popular RSS format. RSS is a specific XML-file, offered by leading
websites.
RSS is the abbreviation for "Real Simple Syndication" and
the standard format used by blogs and professional websites of publishers
or media companies to regularly supply you with the latest news.
RSS delivers the website"s important contents without graphical
overhead – so it"s ideal for mobile reading. Our application
is easy to use, has a great user interface and on top of all: it"s
free!
First use
At first use you will be asked to synchronize. We have added some default
feeds, which we expect to be interesting for most users. You will receive
these feeds during the first sync. On the second sync you will
receive articles. Until your first sync the main screen is empty.
To synchronize, please perform a HotSync (Palm OS) or click on the sync
symbol (S6) on the bottom of the screen (for details see section "Synchronization").
The main screen
On the main screen you see a list of your subscribed feeds. Click them
to read the latest articles. Above this list, we have placed several
buttons (left to right):
- My feeds: The list of your subscribed feeds
- Add feed: This button allows you to add
feeds
- Alerts: Tips and update-news you have received
On the bottom of the screen you'll find three more symbols (On
Symbian and WM Smartphone Edition we have placed entries into the soft-button
menu instead):
- Settings: Go to the settings screen
- Sync: Go to the sync screen
- Help
All these button are available on every screen, not only on the main
screen.
On the top section of the screen our advertising-banners are placed.
Our reader is free and that"s how we support the development. If
you see something interesting, don"t hesitate to click.
Adding feeds
Click on the "+" symbol on the top of the screen. We have
created a list of interesting feeds, which you can add by clicking "choose
feed". On the following screen you simply need to check the desired
feeds or services and click "subscribe".
Of course you'll want to add some custom feed which are not in
our list. You can find the URL on many websites linked as "RSS
feed" or similar. The easiest way to import a set of custom feeds
is exporting an OPML file from your desktop RSS reader.
The OMPL file can be imported into our reader in the following way:
Palm (expansion card required):
- HotSync the OPML file to the expansion card using Palm Quick Install.
Alternatively use a card reader and copy the file to "Card:\Palm\Launcher\".
Symbian:
- Copy the OPML file to a folder on your device or memory card using the
Nokia Desktop Software.
Windows Mobile:
- Copy the
OPML file to a folder (e.g. "My Documents") on your device or memory
card using ActiveSync (click "Explore" on the ActiveSync
main screen
Steps in the reader:
Click on "Import OPML". On Symbian and Windows Mobile you
have to select the folder you have copied the file to before. On Palm
OS simply select a file from the list. Subscribe to your favored feeds
and synchronize afterwards (Note: you'll have to sync 2 times with
an interval of about 10 minutes to receive contents as the server has
to cache the news feeds first).
The second possibility to add custom feeds is typing the URL. You can
give a temporary name, which will appear in the feeds list.
In principle all RSS versions are supported. Problems may occur if a
feed is not conforming to the RSS specifications.
Note: The server needs some time to cache the new added custom feeds.
You will need to sync and then sync again a few minutes later to receive
contents for the first time.
Important: Please double-check your entry, because the feed"s URL
must be entered exactly! It is not correct to simply enter the websites
URL. In most cases you'll find an RSS icon on the website next
to the feed"s URL or directly linked to it.
You can delete feeds by clicking settings -> delete feed.

possible, yet. In the future the received username and password can be
entered here.

Share: Tell your friends about our software
Sync settings: Choose between syncing news and pictures or news only.
In addition you can specify a data limit.
Synchronization
The AutoSync feature allows you to setup specific times for the
news reader to sync automatically. For example, you can setup the AutoSync
for 7:00 AM and you’ll have the latest news on your device when
you take the subway for work. The windows mobile versions allow an automatic
synchronization when you plug-in your ActiveSync connection or connect
to a WiFi network. You’re always up to date without having to care
about anything.
AutoSync is set to 7:00 AM daily by
default.
On windows mobile the AutoSync on USB/WiFi connection is enabled as well.
You can disable the AutoSync feature on the settings
menu screen.
For over-the-air sync press the sync button - (on WM Smartphone
choose "Sync" from the menu". On the following screen
you can either sync all feeds and services (press "Sync all")
or select specific ones (check them and press "Sync" afterwards).
Note: The over-the-air sync uses your wireless internet connection,
which may be expensive, depending on your data plan. At best you should
subscribe to a data plan with included or unlimited traffic.
