SplashData Updates SplashBlog to Greatly Expand
the Ability for Families & Friends
to Post Photos to a Shared Blog
Group photo-blogging capabilities of SplashBlog to be on display at
PalmSource Mobile Summit & DevCon, with attendees posting event photos
to a common blog
SAN JOSE, Calif., PalmSource Mobile Summit & DevCon, May 24, 2005
-- SplashData, Inc., the leading developer of personal productivity applications
for mobile devices, announced today a significant update to its popular
SplashBlog photo-blogging solution for Palm Powered™ smartphones.
The key new features include the ability for multiple users to post photos
to the same blog, and a streamlined approach to subscribing to other user’s
SplashBlogs—enabling them to automatically download all new photos
posted to the blogs to which they are subscribed to their own Palm Powered
device.
The new group blogging and updated subscription features make it easier
than ever for groups of families, friends, or colleagues to always have
access to the latest pictures taken by the group’s members. A family
of Treo 650 users, for instance, can all take pictures with their on-device
cameras, input captions for the images, and wirelessly post them to a
shared photo-blog for everyone to enjoy. Those same users can also “subscribe”
to their friends’ photo-blogs, and anytime they perform a wireless
synchronization, all new pictures added to their subscribed blogs will
be automatically downloaded into their device’s photo library.
To demonstrate the power of group photo-blogging, SplashData will provide
free copies of SplashBlog to all attendees of the PalmSource Mobile Summit
& Developer Conference, along with access privileges to post photos
to a group photo-blog developed specifically for the conference. Throughout
the event, attendees will post the photos they have taken to the PalmSource
photo-blog so that their friends, families and co-workers throughout the
world will be able to enjoy pictures of the event and look for people
they know.
“Splashblog further extends the reach of Palm OS®,”
said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing, PalmSource, Inc. “We
believe the combination of advanced wireless capabilities and the ability
to share, post and subscribe to blog entries truly make SplashBlog a must-have
for users of Palm Powered smartphones.”
An additional new service offered by SplashData is on the SplashBlog
home page. The SplashBlog.com site is now a portal that will dynamically
display recently posted photos by SplashBlog users, along with links to
top-visited SplashBlogs. As users create SplashBlog accounts, they can
opt-in or opt-out to have their images and photo-blogs featured on the
SplashBlog.com home page.
“Our goal is to establish SplashBlog as the de facto standard
for mobile photo blogging by making it as quick and easy as possible for
users to capture and instantly share pictures with family and friends
living in places all over the world,” said John Chaffee, president
of SplashData. “We’re delighted to see SplashBlog becoming
a great new way for families and friends to stay in touch, as well as
realtors displaying hot new properties for sale, and even businesses who
are using the service to distribute product images to their sales people
and customers.”
System Requirements
SplashBlog requires a mobile device running Palm OS® 4.0
or later with a wireless data connection. A built-in camera is recommended
but not required. Mobile devices without a camera can publish images from
a VFS memory card (e.g., from a digital camera). Two-way synchronization
is also supported, enabling images added via the Web site to be downloaded
to the handheld.
Pricing & Availability
SplashBlog for the Palm OS® platform is available now at
www.splashblog.com for a limited
time introductory offer of $19.95 (normally $29.95). The software purchase
includes access to an online photo hosting account on splashblog.com.
A 30-day full-functioning trial is also available for download.
